Pepita

This tiny rooster somehow found his way to an urban backyard in Raleigh NC where he was living for several months, sleeping high up in the trees at night. Although he showed an interest in the humans, he was too scared to come very close and would quickly run away when approached. Recognizing his vulnerability to the coming winter and to predators, the house owners contacted the Refuge for help. While our staff was working to rescue him, he was attacked by a hawk twice, the second time running underneath a porch which allowed us to finally bring him to safety. With minimal cuts, this little rooster has been named Pepita due to his small size and the fact that he was rescued during pumpkin season!
