Jane
Jane came to us from South Carolina after being found wandering between agricultural colleges. She lived like this, without a home, for many months before York County Animal Control was able to bring her to safety. They reached out to us for help, and we were thankfully able to rescue her.
Ann
Ann came to us thanks to a previous volunteer who was taking care of a flock of chickens. Unfortunately, the flock suffered a predator attack, and all of the chickens except Ann passed away as a result. Ann was brought to us to receive specialized care and to be in a safe environment where she can live with other chickens.
Carmelita
Before arriving at the Refuge, Carmelita was found wandering near Pittsboro by a concerned and compassionate person who noticed that her wing had been injured. After safely capturing this vulnerable duck, she called us and sent us pictures. We quickly came and brought Carmelita to her new home!
Scout
Before coming to the Refuge, Scout found herself homeless and was wandering around an apartment complex in Greensboro, NC. With no safe housing or food, she was at risk from predators, cold weather, and starvation. Little Scout was even using the apartment building stairs as a makeshift "roost" to sleep on at night. Luckily, a kind woman who lived there recognized that Scout needed help, contacted our sanctuary, and drove her all the way to us.
Caterpillar
In 2023, Caterpillar and nine other hens were saved from the Kaporos ritual. At the Refuge, they experienced outdoor living for the first time, exploring grass and sunshine in their new environment.
